Our canyons are designed for tonic beginners. No need for experience, but some canyons require more commitment:
The Barberine canyon: it offers a path that bypasses ALL obstacles. Don’t worry if you’re not sure of your means. The Barberine canyon offers challenges of all sizes (25m abseil, jumps up to 7m, splash zip line, slides…), but each participant decides whether to take the plunge or not.
Balme canyon: possibility of circumventing most of the obstacles, except the first 10m waterfall, which you have to accept to descend while hanging from the guide’s rope. The descent is more sustained than Barberine (2h30 and many waterfalls) You must be in good physical condition.
The Belle au Bois canyon: Several narrows make it impossible to avoid the waterfalls, you have to be able to pass all the obstacles. The water is often powerful and the rappels are spectacular. Are you strong?
Let the tree come down with me !
Depending on the canyons, we leave between 1h45 and 2h30 in activity. Add 1 hour of equipment/unequipment, a small approach walk and we have a good half-day.
Two time slots: 9 a.m. / 12:30 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. / 5 p.m.
The schedule depends on many parameters, number of participants and physical condition of the less athletic, crowds in the river, water conditions…
The duration of the outing is given as an indication. We advise you to keep an hour of margin for the rest of your program.
Ideal: shoes with laces and non-slip soles
OK: old shoes at the end of the road, big high-top hiking shoes, velcro sandals with a good sole
Not possible: water shoes and boots with soft neoprene soles, sandals and flip-flops with straps between the toes
*Possibility to rent shoes from OXO: 5€/p. Reserve them the day before at the latest!
The wetsuits and neoprene socks are maintained and renewed very regularly and have no holes. They are cleaned with a bactericidal and fungicidal product after each use.
We meet directly on site. The meeting place will be described very precisely in your booking confirmation email, with a Google Maps link.
From Chamonix or Argentière, no problem. You can very easily do the Barberine canyon by doing it this way: one ride with the OXO minibus / one ride with the free Mont Blanc Express train. It’s easy and it’s free!
For the canyons of Balme and Megève, it is more complicated, but call us and we will certainly find a solution.
There is no OXO base by the river and we change in the parking lot of the canyon. It’s a quiet place, but we change outside!
Remember to wear your bathing suit.
Don’t forget to go to the toilet before leaving, there is none on site (And we don’t pee in wetsuits!!!).
In the car… or leave them in your accommodation.
You can go canyoning if you wear glasses. A properly adjusted cord normally prevents them from being lost. Otherwise, the safest thing is to remove them before jumps and slides and slip them into the well-zipped jacket.
No problem either for contact lenses if you close your eyes tightly when jumping into the water.
The rain increases the flow of the rivers and makes the descents dangerous. Our secret weapon: The Barberine canyon. It is located directly under the Emosson dam, which greatly reduces the effect of rain on the flow. By observing the usual safety rules, you can do the Barberine canyon even if it rains!
In our three canyons, you can come to accompany participants and enjoy the show on all or part of the descent. We will explain where to go to have a nice view! The canyon of Megève is hard to follow, but a path leads to the last two waterfalls which are very spectacular.
You will use dirt roads that are not very sporty, but which can be steep. Good shoes essential.
OXO declines all responsibility for accompanying persons on the trails.
At the time of your reservation, reserve a waterproof photo/video camera and immortalize the exploits of your team!!
